What is HVAC zoning?

Zoning an air conditioning or heating system is the addition of mechanical devices that separate your home or business in zones.  For example, you may wish to have the first floor as one zone and the second floor as another.  This allows for customized temperature control in different areas of the house or building. Our technicians can assess your property and recommend zoning solutions to enhance comfort and energy efficiency.

Easy, please call the office at 310-933-3990 to schedule an appointment.  You may also schedule an appointment online at ac-control.com and click book online.  One of our qualified technicians will arrive, troubleshoot your system and we will provide you a written invoice with the diagnostic, recommendations and a written quote.

What if my AC is blowing but the air is not cold?
There could be several reasons that an A/C blows, but not cold air.  For example, the compressor or its capacitor may be bad, the system may be low on refrigerant, the control boards may have failed or many other reasons.  Call 310-933-3990 or schedule an appointment for troubleshooting or repair.
My system is over 10-years old and still works. The system is over 25 years old in my mother’s house. They both still work. Why should I replace them?

There are several reasons why older systems need to be replaced.  Older systems, just like automobiles and other home appliances, are mechanical equipment that are prone to failure.  As systems age, the repair expenses just keep getting greater and greater.  Also, our older systems do not have the same technological capabilities for quiet operation and energy efficiency.  Save money on repairs, reduce the noise of your equipment and save money on electric bills.  Call A/C Control for a free and no-obligation in-home or at your business estimate.

Why Is My Air Conditioning Bill So High?

A sudden spike in your cooling bill indicates your AC is running inefficiently due to mechanical failure. When components wear down or airflow is restricted, the system must run longer to satisfy your thermostat. This prolonged runtime directly translates to increased electricity ($$) consumption.

What causes an AC to use too much electricity?
  • Clogged Air Filters: The blower motor must work harder.
  • Dirty Condenser Coils: The compressor must work harder.
  • Low on Freon: Leaks in freon does not allow the system to cool – tip: do not just top off, fix that leak.

* Failing Capacitors: The compressor must work harder with weak electric parts.

Why Is My Air Conditioner Frozen?

The AC evaporator coil freezes when the temperature below 32°F. This is typically caused by a dirty filter or a freon leak.

How Do I Fix a Frozen Air Conditioner?
  1. Thaw the System: Set your thermostat from “Cool” to “System Off.”
  2. Run the Fan: Set the fan to “On” to blow warm air over the ice.
  3. Replace the Filter: Put in a clean air filter.
  4. Call A/C Control: Schedule an inspection to check for low refrigerant or duct leaks.
Why Is My AC Leaking Water Inside the House?

An indoor AC water leak can be caused by a blocked condensate drain line. Water condenses is a natural reaction to cooling the air. If the drain line gets clogged, that water backs up and overflows the internal drain pan into your ceilings or floors.

Is an AC Water Leak an Emergency?

Yes, a leaking air conditioner is a home improvement emergency. Beyond causing immediate water damage to drywall and flooring, stagnant water creates a breeding ground for biological growth. Shut off your thermostat immediately.

Why Is My Air Conditioner Making a Loud Noise?

Unusual air conditioning noises means loose or damaged parts. Modern A/Cs should operate with a steady, predictable hum. Any sharp, metallic, or rhythmic disruptive sounds require A/C Control’s technician to diagnose and repair the equipment.

What Do Different AC Noises Mean?
  • Squealing or Screeching: Indicates a failing blower motor belt or bad bearings.
  • Banging or Clanking: Indicates a loose compressor internal.
  • Hissing or Bubbling: Indicates a freon leak.
  • Clicking Repeatedly: Indicates an electrical issue with a relay, contactor, or thermostat connection.
Can I Still Get R-22 Freon Recharged in My AC?

As of January 1, 2020, R-22 refrigerant is illegal to produce or import in the United States. While technicians can legally use recycled R-22 to service older systems, the available supply is scarce and costly. Most R-22 systems must be completely replaced when a major leak occurs.

What Are the Risks of Running an R-22 Air Conditioner?

The primary risk is exorbitant repair costs. A simple freon recharge can cost thousands of dollars due to scarcity. Additionally, these systems are well past their engineered lifespan (they were all manufactured before 2008), making them prone to sudden mechanical failures during peak summer heat waves.

What is Freon™ and what is freon?

This is a common mistake. Is freon R-22? Is it for all refrigerants and air conditioners? Freon™ is a brand name for the company that manufactures refrigerants. Freon is a common use referring to all types of refrigerant.
