Corrosion protection, metal sealant, rust inhibitor coating
A/C Control’s technicians have seen many towers that were refurbished. The contractors who completed the refurbishment did not properly coat the tower’s metal parts. ACC’s standard procedure is to seal all metal parts with a tower grade epoxy or rust inhibitor. Of course, nothing can stop corrosion, however, ACC’s techniques significantly slow it down. Consider a refurbishment every 5 years without coating or every 15 years with coating.
Bearings
Bearing grease is an easily neglected maintenance item. This should be considered equally important as changing the oil in an engine. We have observed in many tower installations that preventive maintenance has not been performed. In these installations, bearings become dry and damaged. The overall cost to replace bearings, including materials, labor, and, most importantly, the loss of use could be 100 times the cost of proper regular maintenance.
